Utah Car Accident Lawyers

Nearly a quarter of all drivers in the United States will get into an accident within the next half decade, according to statistics compiled by the NHTSA and the US Department of Transportation. Car accident deaths have been hovering between 40,000 and 43,000 annually for the past three decades. On average, more than six million accidents occur on US roads every year. The majority of these (fortunately) do not involve serious injuries or major damage to property. However, transportation authorities estimate that millions of accidents do in fact lead to injuries and damage of at least a significant nature.

What can you do to limit the likelihood of getting into a car accident?

  • Pay attention to when you drive. Accidents are more likely to occur on holidays, such as the 4th of July and New Year’s Eve, and during weekend nights.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol and narcotics prior to driving - not only can driving while even mildly intoxicated significantly increase your risk for getting into a crash, but it can also land you in legal hot water.
  • Limit or eliminate entirely your use of cell phones while driving. Even if you talk via a hands-free set, your attentiveness to road conditions will almost certainly be diminished, and this will increase your risk of getting into an accident.
  • Make sure that your vehicle is up to date on inspections and comes equipped with a full battery of safety features, including air bags, anti-locks breaks, and stability controls (if possible).
  • Always wear your seatbelt and limit distractions while you drive (E.g. animated conversations with other passengers, loud music, etc.).

What are some common causes of auto accidents?

  • Poor navigation at intersections (1/3rd of all crashes happen at intersections!)
  • Failing to yield the right of way
  • Speeding
  • Driving recklessly
  • Failing to merge properly
  • Ignoring posted signage
