Utah Dog Bite Attorneys
Every year, millions of Americans are bitten by aggressive dogs. The vast majority of victims suffer only minor and glancing injuries. However, hundreds of thousands get admitted to hospitals or go for medical care for dog attacks. The AMA suggests that dog bites are an incredibly serious problem for children, in particular; young children - below the age of ten - tend to be injured by dog bites at a greater rate than other kids.
Common dog bite injuries include infection, puncture wounds, lacerations and contusions, bone fractures, crushing injuries, hematomas, bruises and abrasions. In more serious cases, dislocation of joints and even amputation can occur. Around two dozen people on average are killed every year due to dog aggression.
The Postal Service reports an average of around 3,000 carrier bites per year. The most likely breeds of dogs to bite are Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, Mastiffs, and Pitbulls. In California -- a very common kind of biting dog is the Rottweiler-Pitbull mix -- a breed that proliferated in popularity in the 1990s and early millennium. Pitbull and Pitbull Mixes are not inherently vicious dogs (at least according to advocates of these animals) -- there just happens to be a culture currently surrounding these animals that leads them to be brought up in a violent manner.
Male dogs are far more likely than females to act aggressively; unspayed and un-neutered dogs are also more likely to bite. Different breeds bite differently - Pitbull bites statistically tend to be more damaging than, for instance, bites from German Shepherds.
