BOUNTIFUL CAR ACCIDENT LAWYERS

Case Study:Distracted Driver injures Bountiful Teen in Car Accident

Summary

Katie is a high school student from Bountiful Utah. In May of 2008, she was involved in a violent car accident that left her with injuries that would take over a year to heal and resulted in substantial medical bills.

Katie was riding in the passenger seat of her friend’s Honda that spring afternoon. The driver answered her cell phone and became inattentive at the wheel. She veered out of traffic, jumped a curb, and smashed into the back of a city worker’s pickup truck. The Honda was almost completely destroyed. Rescue workers had to use the Jaws of Life to rescue her from the vehicle.

The force of the impact left Katie with several back and neck injuries. She suffered from whiplash, a broad based disc herniation, lumbar pain, and chronic headaches. In addition, her left leg was in a constant state of pain, numbness and tingling. Katie saw several doctors for treatment pertaining to her injuries. When these methods did not work, she had to undergo a lumbar discectomy in April of 2009.

The Costs of Being the Victim in a Utah Car Crash

After a year of chronic pain, Katie began to finally experience some physical relief. However, her road to recovery was physically and emotionally challenging. She missed a significant amount of high school, she missed out on social activities, and she had over $40,000 in medical bills! Katie and her family, all innocent victims of a Utah car accident, were at a loss on what to do.

Utah Personal Injury Attorneys Can Help

Katie and her family decided to take action. They hired Kenneth Christensen to handle her legal case against the insurance companies. This allowed Katie to focus on her continued physical and emotional recovery—instead of worrying about bills and how her family would afford them. Mr. Christensen was able to win a substantial settlement for Katie without having to file a lawsuit.

This is another tragic example of the dangers of distracted driving . Cell phone usage is extremely dangerous. Even blue-tooth headsets are distracting and constitute a driving hazard. We share in the belief that driving is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Katie, a sweet sixteen year old, has gone through neck surgery and trauma due to another driver’s reckless behavior. We all need to turn off our phones before we get behind the wheel to help prevent another accident like this.
